The future of wearable and gadget protection

d30 Elbow Insert

Seeing a friend bite through his lip and knock himself out cold skateboarding in the half-pipe was scary. Convincing my best friend when we were kids to do a front-flip off my parents deck onto frozen ground was stupid. When he landed flat on his back I naturally took off running (I promised to do it if he did). Missing a simple air called a slob when snowboarding in a half-pipe, landing on my back and knocking myself unconscious was embarrassing (or karma setting things right).

If we had clothes, hats or helmets with d3o we would have fared much better. d30 (dee-three-oh) is a specially engineered material made with intelligent molecules. It’s soft and flows with you as you move, but upon impact/shock the molecules lock together to absorb the impact energy.

A video is the best way to show you how it works and how incredible this stuff is…

d30 is now being integrated into a number of wearables in impact areas such as hips, tailbones, shins, knees, elbows and shoulders. Other products include toe shoes for ballet, soft hats (as seen in the video) and gloves for winter sports, cycling and motocross. d30 is also used to protect gadgets; Tech | 21′s iBand cases for iPods and iPhones promises 100% more impact protection than conventional cases.

This orange Silly Putty-like material called d30 is a futuristic way to save your iPhone, your tailbone and your pride. Check out their web site for a list of products.
