All About Linux

What is Linux? Linux is an operating system created by Linus Torvalds during his time as a student at the University of Helsinki. Linux was created and is to be used as an option or as a substitute to the other operating systems that are used by computer users, such as MS-DOS, Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, etc. is not a program or set of programs like a word processor an Office suite. A Brief History During his studies at the University of Helsinki, Linus uses a version of the UNIX operating system called “Minix”. Several requests for changes and improvements to the operating system were sent by Linus and other users to Andrew Tanenbaum, Creator of MINIX, but he felt that they were not necessary.

So Linus decided to create his own operating system, one that would take into account comments from users and suggestions for improvements. A “core” is at the core of any operating system. Without going into detail, says the kernel, the CPU to do what the program or application that you want to use. An operating system would not exist without a nucleus. However, a kernel is useless without programs or applications. Developed in 1991, two critical situations, which serve as a starting point for Linux. A kernel was already created by Linus, but he did not use any programs, some programs were of GNU and Richard Stallman available, but they had no working kernel.

So Linux was born through the combination of the programs of Richard and GNU in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with the kernel by Linus in Helsinki, Finland presented. It was covering a lot of ground and travel far, so that the Internet became the primary method, kernel Linus’ along with the GNU programs. It can almost say that Linux is an operating system that came to life on the Internet. Not for everyone, at first Other software companies will sell the software is included on a CD or a set of floppy disks that can along with a brief instruction booklet, and in half an hour or even less likely to install a fully functional operating system on your computer. She just needed to know how to read and follow the instructions to install it. That was what the companies had in mind when they developed their operating systems. But if Linux was developed by Linus, this factor was not considered initially. Later, Red Hat and other like-minded companies have made it their goal to Linux to the point where it can easily be installed just like any other operating system on the market to develop, by anyone who can follow simple instructions, and today we can definitely say that they succeeded in that purpose. Linux Today Today there is a large positive feedback from computer users to Linux. The fact that Linux has to be impressive, stable and versatile, especially as network servers, has certainly gained a great role in this popularity. Down-time is small or insignificant when Linux is installed and used as a Web server or in corporate networks. Many cases have been reported, with Linux-powered servers have been smoothly even works for more than a year without rebooting, and if they had to be taken down, it was only for a short period for maintenance purposes. The economy has proven to be one of the strongest selling points. Linux can be installed on both a home PC or a network server run without having to spend as much as it would be for other software packages. More security and less cost – that is ideal.
